Subway: Eat Fresh

For as much as we travel it is inevitable that we are driving during some meal time. I have just about had it with the fries and fried foods that come with typical fast food restaurants. Well this weekend I decided to put McDonald's and Burger King to the test with my 4 year old. For those that aren't familiar, whenever Carac is a cold luncher at school he always wants a ham sandwich, so I went at the bargaining from that perspective. We were pulling up to our typical lunch spot a little more than halfway to Indy, and I turned around and asked Carac is he wanted a ham sandwich for lunch. He smiled and happily agreed to the idea. Ben looked at me and said, "You're seriously going to try to get away with Subway when there is a McDonald's AND Burger King in plain view." I just smiled and headed to Subway.
Carac got inside and immediately started smiling. We decided on the kids meal with the 4" sandwich. Carac picked out apple slices and a juice box and then told me he wanted ham on his sandwich. Of course he wanted nothing else, just the ham and bread. To me, it was still money better spent than chicken nuggets and french fries. The employees were also more than willing to give us the cheese slices on the side so Carac could eat those separate.
Ben and I proceeded to eat our sub and were getting ready to leave. Carac looked up and told us he was still hungry. Not missing an opportunity to further build his love of Subway, and knowing he had played pretty hard at soccer, we went ahead and got him another 4". He only ate about 1/2 of it, but Ben finished it. While we were sitting there waiting on him Carac looked at us and said "Mommy, there is a commercial on tv, and it says Subway: Eat Fresh.......I like subway!"
Now, fast forward one day and we're getting ready to head back to Evansville. (It was a short trip to see Grandma Rosie and Grandpa Alex.) Carac is buckled in and he says "Mommy, I just need my ham sandwich." Grandpa Alex proceeds to offer to make Carac a sandwich, and he merely responds "No Grandpa, the ham sandwich from Subway, duh." We all started cracking up. Of course we weren't fans of the duh, but we were astounded at how quickly he has latched on to the subway idea. In the long run I believe that my waist line, and his, will both benefit from a few less french fries, and some better choices at Subway! Below are some more pictures that we took.
