Football: Week 3

Yes, this says Week 3, however this is my first post about the season. Right now the Varsity team is 1 - 2 and the Reserve or JV team, is 2 - 1. Ben spends Friday night up in the box for the Varsity games and he's directly in the ear of the Defensive Coordinator on the field. They have found that after Ben played so many years as quarterback, that he's pretty quick at reading the opposing offense, and it's paid off. Then, for the Reserve games on Monday night, Ben is in charge of the defense and Coach Weber calls the offense. Tonight they won 31 - 0, so I would say the defense did pretty well. You can see Ben hard at work in the middle of a group of plays. He's standing next to #71. Sorry about the glare from the other bleachers! I'll get some better ones next week.
Carac loves running up to Ben after the games are over. He's so proud of his dad and feels so special that he gets to run where the big kids play. Last week when they lost Carac crossed his arms and pouted and then yelled at me like it was my fault. We are definitely using these as teachable moments. We just try to tell him that sometimes you do lose. It was sort of cute though seeing him get so upset for his dad.
During the games I've been working with Carac. We've established that the offense tries to score with the ball, and the defense is trying to stop the ball. Ever since Carac has started playing soccer Ben's been a little worried that he might not play football. So I'm still trying to keep Carac interested. Plus, Ben's even gone as far as to tell Carac that he can't play soccer after he starts sleeping without a night light. Based on Carac's fear of the dark, that may be longer then Ben was planning on! I would say that if the trend contines like the other coaches and their sons, I would say more than likely Carac will end up playing football. Tonight I got a couple pictures of the new field and Ben on the far sidelines. This year the 3 main football fields in Evansville got turf. Ben is not a fan of the big 20 yard logo in the middle. This one is pretty scaled down compared to the bright yellow one we'll be playing on in a few weeks. I'll make sure to get a few pictures. Also, next week I'll get a couple of Carac watching Ben coach. He was a little restless tonight, so he wouldn't smile for the camera.
